On the use of AI
I make no apologies for using AI to help build this. GenX-DOS spans 35 systems across 20 emulator engines, and getting them to coexist in a browser has been a complicated and often difficult undertaking. I would not have been able to give the project this level of detail and attention without the assistance of Claude Code.
That assistance was exactly that — assistance. Every design decision, every system integration, and every line that ships here was reviewed, tested, and signed off by me. The AI did not decide what GenX-DOS should be, what belonged in it, or why any of it mattered.
Some of the artwork came the same way. The backdrop behind the IBM games was generated with Grok and then recoloured by hand until it sat properly against the monitor in front of it. Where a texture has a maker who can be credited, it is.
This is a preservation project run by one person. The alternative to using the tools available was not a purer version of GenX-DOS; it was a smaller one, or none at all.
